The Welwyn Garden City Youth Drama Festival is a member of NDFA, the National Drama Festivals Association.

Our Adjudicators are always full or associate members of GoDA, The Guild of Drama Adjudicators.

The Welwyn Drama Festival is held each year in May and, as of 2015, is also hosted at The Barn Theatre. It has been running for 10 years longer than the YDF.  It is a one act festival, attracting entries from all across the UK and our senior winner is invited to perform on the first night.  The dates for the 82nd Festival are 22nd to 27th May 2017.

The senior winner of the Youth Drama Festival is eligible for an invitation to perform at the British All Winners Festival (BAWF), a week long celebration of amateur theatre organised by NDFA. The programme includes both full length and one act plays. BAWF is usually held in July. The 45th BAWF was to have been held in Rugby on 14 July, but has regrettably has to be cancelled.

Hertford Theatre Week is the only Hertfordshire-based Festival for full length plays and is held at Hertford Theatre.  In 2018 the dates are 23rd to 28th April.

Our Venue

A performance space for local drama groups since 1932, the Barn Theatre offers a full season of 10 ‘main house’ productions performed between September and June by members of the resident Barn Theatre Club, as well as a Fringe Festival in October and a youth production in July.
